Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll both reached Q2 at Sepang, a rare double advance for Aston Martin after a difficult run in qualifying. [1]

Fernando Alonso was 14th quickest at the Q1 cut with a lap of 1min 37.721sec, eight thousandths of a second ahead of team-mate Lance Stroll in 15th. RacingNews365 says both were about a quarter of a second clear of Nico Hülkenberg’s Audi, which missed the cut. [1]
The publication says Aston Martin had reached Q2 on only one of the previous 15 race weekends: Alonso did so in Hungary after the team introduced a major upgrade package. [1]
Alonso’s 14th and Stroll’s 15th places describe their positions at the Q1 cut, rather than their final qualifying positions. Both advanced to the next session. [1]
