Helsinki police said on 1 October that Finland’s parliament had alerted them to suspected entries into MPs’ homes. Officers have opened a preliminary inquiry and are working with the National Bureau of Investigation. A full criminal investigation had not yet begun, Yle reported. [1] [4]
Parliamentary Speaker Jussi Halla-aho described the number of suspected cases known to parliament as significant, without giving a figure. Yle reported fewer than 20 suspected intrusions over roughly the past year. MPs have been asked to report possible signs of entry to parliamentary security and police. [7] [4] [5]
Some concerns arose after doors were found open or lights switched on when residents did not remember leaving them that way. Yle reported no apparent signs of forced entry, theft or damage. Halla-aho said it was not known who might be responsible or why. [3] [7]
Asked about possible foreign interference, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said it was possible. Deputy Speaker Paula Risikko said it was too early to conclude Russia was involved: the first task was to establish what happened, who was responsible and how extensive the incidents were. [5]
