The Médecins Sans Frontières worker became ill during an Ebola response in Congo and is now being treated in a specialist unit in Leiden.

A Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) worker with Ebola has arrived in the Netherlands and been admitted to a high-level isolation unit at Leiden University Medical Centre, the hospital and Dutch public health institute RIVM said in updates on Thursday evening. The worker became ill in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and tested positive for Ebola. [3] [4]
MSF said the worker became infected while helping respond to an Ebola outbreak in Congo. The hospital said other patients and visitors face no infection risk and do not need to take additional precautions. Ebola spreads through contact with infected bodily fluids; Dutch public health guidance also recognises less common transmission through contaminated objects. [2] [4] [7]
MSF said it uses extensive precautions during Ebola response work, but infection cannot be ruled out entirely. It has not said how this worker was exposed. [2]
