Cassius Newton and Aran Martinson died after setting out on a hike in the UAE in extreme heat, a coroner found.

Area coroner Michelle Brown ruled that Cassius Newton and his friend Aran Martinson died by misadventure after a hike in the United Arab Emirates. She said severe rises in both men’s body temperatures led to organ failure. Newton, 34, was the son of former Chelsea midfielder Eddie Newton. [1]
The two men set out at about 07:00 local time. Rescue teams found Newton’s body in the mountainous Wadi Naqab area on 18 July. Essex Coroner’s Court heard that he had called his wife at about 02:00 to tell her about the planned hike. She asked him not to go; Brown cited her concerns about the heat, his lack of sleep and whether his phone had enough charge. [1]
Brown said the temperature had been 40°C earlier, while a previous hearing was told it was 50°C in the desert. [1]
