Kieron Bowie scored his first Scotland goal as Sebastien Pocognoli’s side beat North Macedonia 2–0 in Skopje in the Nations League. Bowie started alongside Oli McBurnie in a 3-4-1-2 formation and led Scotland’s players with seven shots, four of them on target, according to BBC Sport’s match figures. [1]
The goal gave Bowie a better end to an international outing than his previous start, which lasted just 13 minutes after Jack Hendry was sent off during a home defeat by Switzerland. Bowie had also missed out on the World Cup squad selected by then-manager Steve Clarke. He said Clarke had sent him a message telling him he was not in the squad, and that his focus was on how to respond. [1]
Bowie said Pocognoli had put trust in him and that the coach’s approach suited his strengths, particularly running behind defenders and using his strength against them. He described the change of coach as a fresh start. [1]
