The Belgian caught Giulio Ciccone in the closing metres of a two-rider sprint, with the European title settled by a photo finish.

Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel won the men’s European road cycling title in Slovenia on Sunday, edging Italy’s Giulio Ciccone in a two-rider sprint decided by a photo finish. Ciccone led as they began the sprint, but Evenepoel drew alongside in the closing metres. Italy’s Christian Scaroni finished third, just under a minute behind. [1]
The 196.3-kilometre race began in Ljubljana and included 2,571 metres of climbing. Ciccone attacked on the Možjanca climb, where Evenepoel caught him before crashing near the summit. Evenepoel rejoined on the descent, and the pair later broke clear of the other riders with more than 32 kilometres remaining. [1]
Defending champion Tadej Pogačar did not race after a crash in the Vuelta, ANP reported, though he was at the finish in Šenčur. Dutch team leader Wout Poels abandoned after a fall. [1]
