The Czech Republic face England twice in Nations League Group A3, starting in Prague on 29 September 2026 before playing in London on 6 October. The Wembley match falls 30 years after the Czechs reached the Euro ’96 final there. They have played at the stadium in the intervening years. [1]
That 1996 run began with a 2-0 group-stage defeat by Germany. The Czechs then beat Italy 2-1 and drew 3-3 with Russia to advance, before beating Portugal 1-0 and overcoming France on penalties after a goalless semi-final. [1]
In the final, Patrik Berger’s penalty put the Czech Republic ahead against Germany after 59 minutes. Oliver Bierhoff equalised 14 minutes later and scored the golden goal that won the match. Berger told the BBC that the silver medal felt like gold to the team because the tournament opened opportunities for its players. [1]
The Czech Republic have not reached another tournament final as a separate nation. Their current side is led by Santi Denia, its first foreign manager. His first Nations League squad includes seven players with no more than one cap, though none of those seven is under 22. [1]
