Rui Pinto, the creator of Football Leaks, said FIFA president Gianni Infantino should have “no place in the future of the game”. His comments appeared in a message on X reported by BBC Sport on 30 September. [1]
Pinto renewed allegations first reported in 2018 about Infantino’s time as UEFA general secretary. He alleged that Infantino shared confidential documents and used his position to help Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain avoid a deeper investigation into their finances and a possible Champions League ban. Pinto claimed Infantino had sought to ensure the clubs received only fines. [1] [2]
The clubs’ 2014 UEFA settlements included more than financial measures. Each agreed to have €60m withheld from competition revenue, with €40m of that sum returnable if it met agreed conditions. Both also accepted limits on their 2014–15 Champions League squad lists and restrictions on transfer spending. [3] [4]
When the allegations first emerged, UEFA said assisting in such matters was within the general secretary’s remit. Infantino described discussions and exchanges of documents as part of his job, while PSG denied the allegations. BBC Sport said it had contacted FIFA following Pinto’s latest remarks. [1]
