Girondins de Bordeaux are to be sold to American investment group Park Bench for a symbolic €1, ANP/DPA reported on Wednesday. The sale remains subject to approval from the football authorities in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. [1]
Park Bench will take on the financially troubled club’s debts from current owner Gérard López once the sale is approved, the club said in a statement cited by ANP/DPA. [1]
Bordeaux were relegated in 2022 after 30 seasons in France’s top division. They later lost their professional licence amid financial problems and were placed in the fourth tier. The club are playing at the sixth level this season; their most recent French league title was in 2009. [1]
