The government has dropped plans to save billions of euros by cutting old-age, unemployment and disability benefits. Employers and employees have been given time to propose other ways to reduce social-security costs, including by getting more people into work. [1]
In the meantime, other ministries would have to find savings unless a social agreement delivers enough, ANP reported. Finance Ministry tables put education first in line, making Jetten’s reassurance conditional on what happens next. [1]
Jetten told ANP he expected employers and employees to reach an agreement. If they do, he said, the concern for education would not arise; if events unfold differently, the government will consider where the burden falls. [1]
