The René Karst Award was announced at the Buma NL Awards in Tilburg on 28 September. It will be presented annually to the song with the catchiest chorus, Nieuws.nl reported. The first award went to Justen de Wildt and his songwriting team for ‘Cheerio’. Karst’s son Thomas presented the prize. [1]
Buma Cultuur director Frank Helmink praised Karst’s songwriting and memorable choruses. The organisation intends the award as a lasting tribute to the singer and songwriter. [1]
Karst died on 21 November 2025. Songs he wrote include ‘Atje voor de sfeer’, ‘Liever te dik in de kist’ and ‘Dat interesseert me echt geen ene reet’. [1]
