René van Vlerken, an executive at exchange operator Euronext, has criticised Dutch tax plans that he says would place a heavier burden on small investors. He argues that the plans clash with European efforts to encourage more savers to invest. ANP reported his comments on 1 October in a story published by Nieuws.nl. [1]
Van Vlerken said the discussion about Box 3, the Dutch tax regime affecting savings and investments, was creating uncertainty, particularly for smaller investors. He argued that encouraging people to invest would strengthen European capital markets, provide more growth funding for companies and help individuals build wealth over time. [1]
The precise tax treatment of investors has yet to be decided. Parties in the Dutch House of Representatives had not agreed on an approach when ANP reported Van Vlerken’s comments. [1]
