Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi, commander of Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps, said the soldiers were captured during the third phase of Operation Vivaldi near Lyman in northern Donetsk region. He said entire Russian units had surrendered, including officers, pilots and artillery personnel. [4]
Biletskyi also reported 2,000 Russian personnel losses and said Ukrainian forces had retaken the villages of Ridkodub, Nove and Katerynivka, while restoring full control over Karpivka and Novomykhailivka. The personnel-loss figure was not broken down into killed, wounded and captured troops. [4] [5]
The corps put its latest territorial gain at 51 square kilometres and its cumulative figure at 176 square kilometres. Earlier figures included both land recaptured and areas cleared of Russian infiltrators. The operation was made public on 15 September; Monday’s announcement concerned a further phase, not the start of the offensive. [5] [7]
