Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere says watching Mikel Arteta coach at Arsenal influenced how he works with players. In a BBC Sport interview with Kelly Somers published on 3 October, Wilshere said he had asked Arteta about his methods, but had also needed to learn how to plan sessions and communicate his own ideas. [1]
Wilshere, who coached Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman in Arsenal’s academy, recalled that Dowman played for his under-18 side at 13. Reflecting on mistakes in his own playing career, he said young players need clear boundaries but should also be given another chance. [1]
The 34-year-old said he wants strong relationships with his players, alongside hard work, accountability and clarity about what is expected of them. [1]
Wilshere is nearing a year in charge at Luton. His side won the EFL Trophy in April, beating Stockport County 3-1 at Wembley, and he is aiming for promotion to the Championship this season. [1]
