The US Federal Reserve has prohibited Renee Nicole Brown, a former Sandy Spring Bank employee, from working for or participating in the affairs of insured banks and other covered institutions without prior written regulatory approval. The order took effect on 16 September 2026 and was announced on 24 September. [1] [2]
Brown was a teller supervisor at a branch in Silver Spring, Maryland, until her dismissal in August 2024. The order says she took approximately $246,000 from teller cash dispenser machines between June 2023 and July 2024. It says she pleaded guilty and was convicted of a theft scheme under Maryland law on 4 May 2026. She received probation and was required to make partial restitution to the bank. [2]
Brown consented to the Federal Reserve order, resolving the administrative matter without a formal hearing or findings on the issues it sets out. The order also says Sandy Spring Bank merged with Atlantic Union Bank after the conduct occurred. [2]
The restrictions remain in effect unless the Federal Reserve stays, changes or ends them in writing. [2]
