A new version of ‘Jolene’ featuring Dolly Parton singing parts of the song in Welsh is due for release on 9 October. Recorded before Parton’s death on 25 August, the single is a collaboration with Welsh singer-songwriter Bronwen Lewis and Parton’s niece, Jada Star. The BBC describes it as Parton’s second posthumous release. [1]
Parton recorded her parts at her Nashville studio in early 2025 after working through the sounds of Lewis’s Welsh translation. Lewis and Star recorded their parts in the UK. [1]
Lewis said she had posted a video of herself singing ‘Jolene’ in Welsh about two years earlier. A teaser for the single credited Star with suggesting they record a Welsh version; Lewis and Star said Parton was proud to take part. [1]
