NS has responded to a union’s warning about violence against railway staff, saying it shares concerns about their safety and outlining measures it is taking.

Dutch rail operator NS says it shares concerns raised by employees, unions and politicians about the safety of railway staff. Responding to a letter from rail workers’ union VVMC, NS said every incident was one too many and that everyone should be able to work safely, Dutch news agency ANP reported. [1]
In its letter, issued on Tuesday, VVMC said violent incidents on the railways were increasing in both frequency and severity. The union called for more authorised security personnel on trains. [1]
NS said all its head conductors would receive body cameras in 2026. It has also begun a trial of batons for its Safety and Service staff and is recruiting more people for that team. [1]
