A judge at the Old Bailey has imposed a £100,000 financial condition for the release on bail of Dr Vincent Brown, up from £25,000 set by magistrates. Judge Mark Lucraft KC said Brown would remain in custody until the new condition was met, BBC News reported. [1]
Brown, 65, faces one charge of conduct ancillary to genocide and six of conduct ancillary to murder as a crime against humanity. The Crown Prosecution Service alleges that he directed and incited killings carried out by others in Rwanda in April 1994. It describes these as the first UK charges relating to the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. [2]
The reported bail terms also require Brown to surrender his passport and identity cards, observe a curfew at his London address, wear an electronic monitor and report to police daily. He must not apply for international travel documents. [1]
