Parts of southern France received more than 300mm of rain on Wednesday, with further storms forecast and red weather alerts reported for Gard and Hérault.

Météo-France recorded 337.6mm of rain at Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort and 299mm at Colognac, both in Gard, by 18:00 on Wednesday 30 September. Prades-le-Lez, in Hérault, had received 264.9mm. The forecaster warned that prolonged storms could cause flooding and flash floods. [1]
ANP reported red weather alerts for Gard and Hérault, while describing an orange alert for Montpellier, which is in Hérault. Météo-France expected intense rain to continue around the Gulf of Lion on Thursday and move eastwards during the day. [3] [1]
By Thursday, Montpellier’s council listed a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain-related flooding. It said conditions were gradually returning to normal, but urged caution near roads that remained flooded. [2]
