Retail turnover in the Netherlands rose 3.5% in August 2026 compared with a year earlier, while sales volume increased 2.7%, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported. The figures exclude petrol stations. [1]
The turnover figure is adjusted for the mix of shopping days in the month. Without that adjustment, the year-on-year increase was 2.5%. Non-food retailers, including their online sales, recorded a 5.0% rise in turnover and a 3.5% rise in sales volume. Food retailers posted smaller increases of 0.9% and 1.0% respectively. [1]
Among non-food businesses, furniture and home-furnishing shops recorded 7.1% higher turnover, while turnover at shoe and leather-goods shops fell 1.1%. [1]
Online turnover across retailers rose 6.2% from a year earlier. It increased 7.0% at online-only shops and 4.8% for shops whose internet sales are a secondary activity. [1]
