Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Van Veldhoven said she had “every confidence” the green-gas bill would pass with a broad majority. She also said she was still talking to MPs to secure their support. The bill would require energy suppliers to deliver some green gas. [1]
PRO MP Sjoukje van Oosterhout said on Tuesday that her party would not support the bill in its current form. She fears it would create a financial incentive to maintain intensive livestock farming, because some green gas is produced by fermenting manure. [1]
MPs are due to vote on Tuesday, 6 October. The law is intended to take effect on 1 January, and Van Veldhoven said that timetable would still be possible if the bill passes next week. [1]
