The Cheshire home of *The Traitors* contestant Paul Gorton was burgled on 28 August while he was on holiday with his wife, Kate, and their two young children. His bicycle and several sentimental items, including a ring from Kate’s grandmother, were stolen. The burglars entered through rear bi-fold doors using a method known as lock snapping and cut the broadband connection. [1]
Gorton said he posted a holiday photograph at 21:10 BST and that the break-in happened about 20 minutes later. He suspects someone who follows him online may have seen that he was away, though it is not known whether the post played a part. Cheshire Police told the BBC that its investigation was ongoing and no arrests had been made. [1]
After the burglary, Gorton joined a campaign with Compare the Market. In an exercise commissioned by the company, a private investigator used publicly available information to identify the home addresses of seven of nine volunteers; the fastest identification took 15 minutes. [1]
