In a BBC Breakfast interview reported by BBC Sport, the former Manchester United manager recalled being unable to speak in the days immediately after surgery for a brain haemorrhage in May 2018. “That was a frightening moment,” he said. Ferguson said his voice returned after a therapist asked him to write down names of birds, animals and rivers. [1]
Four months after the surgery, he returned to Old Trafford to watch United play Wolves. Ferguson said he felt uncomfortable about going back, but he and his wife Cathy received a standing ovation when they took their seats, BBC Sport reported. He now says he feels “quite good despite small injuries”. [1]
The interview also looks ahead to *Games of My Life*, a forthcoming book about 21 matches from Ferguson’s playing and managerial career. He recalled considering a move to Canada while struggling to get into St Johnstone’s first team. In 1963, he scored a hat-trick against Rangers after being brought into the starting side. [1]
Ferguson also revisited his years at Manchester United, saying he had trusted the club’s young players and recalling his decision to sell Paul Ince to Inter Milan in 1995. [1]
