Carlos Alcaraz saved two match points to beat Taylor Fritz 6–3, 4–6, 13–11 in a deciding tie-break at London’s O2 Arena. His win helped Team Europe take a 7–5 lead over Team World at the Laver Cup going into Sunday’s final day. [1]
At 8–9 in the tie-break, Alcaraz saved one match point with an ace and another with a drop shot. He won on his third match point when Fritz could not reach another drop shot. Alcaraz said he used the shot at crucial moments because it had worked well for him in the match. [1]
Team World had won two earlier singles matches on Saturday. Alex de Minaur beat Alexander Zverev 2–6, 7–6 (7–5), 11–9, while Learner Tien defeated Flavio Cobolli 6–3, 2–6, 10–7. Zverev later partnered Casper Ruud to beat Alexander Bublik and Brandon Nakashima 6–4, 7–6 (9–7) in doubles. [1]
Europe’s two-point lead leaves the contest open: wins are worth three points on Sunday, and the first team to reach 13 takes the trophy. [1]
