Wakefield beat Warrington 23–10 to win Super League title

Warrington Wolves and Wakefield Trinity will meet at Old Trafford on Saturday, with the winner becoming the sixth club to claim a Super League Grand Final title. Wigan, Leeds, St Helens, Bradford and Hull KR are the only previous winners. [1]

Wakefield reached their first Grand Final by beating Wigan in the semi-finals. Warrington overcame Leeds to reach their fifth final, having lost on each of their previous four appearances. It is their first trip to the Old Trafford final in eight years. [1]

Warrington have brought Jordy Crowther into their pre-match squad in place of Max Wood. Wakefield’s squad is unchanged from the semi-final, with Josh Rourke again included in the provisional selection as he returns from a knee injury. [1]

The clubs’ league-title droughts stretch beyond the Grand Final era: Warrington last won a league title 71 years ago, and Wakefield 58 years ago. Wakefield coach Daryl Powell told BBC Sport his side would need to play at “a very high level” to beat Warrington. [1]

Wakefield Trinity led 19–0 at half-time after tries from Cameron Scott, Isaiah Vagana and Jazz Tevaga, with Jack Sinfield adding a drop goal. [2]

Warrington’s Arron Lindop scored early in the second half while Wakefield centre Corey Hall was in the sin-bin for a high tackle. Tom Johnstone then scored Wakefield’s fourth try before Lindop crossed again late on, leaving the final score at 23–10. [2]
