Enquiries to TaskHer, a platform connecting customers with tradeswomen, have more than doubled so far in 2026 compared with 2025, founder Anna Moynihan told BBC News. Sign-ups by tradeswomen have almost quadrupled over the same comparison, she said. [1]
Women still account for around 4% of the UK construction workforce, according to a Federation of Master Builders figure cited by the BBC. Among people starting construction apprenticeships in 2024–25, one in 10 was a woman, up from roughly one in 14 five years earlier. [1]
Bliss Cunneen, a 28-year-old plumber from south London, told the BBC she valued the freedom of running her own business, though some customers had doubted her when she arrived for a job. She said she was once mistaken for a receptionist. Jasmine Gurney, 33, a former marketer from Bedfordshire, said she uses her DIY posts to encourage other women despite criticism online about her techniques. [1]
In a 2024 B&Q survey cited by the BBC, around three-quarters of Gen Z women respondents said they enjoyed DIY, compared with 60% of female respondents overall. Among the younger group, 82% said seeing women do complex DIY on social media had inspired them to do more themselves. [1]
