Big Bang played Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday, 26 September, as part of a world tour marking the South Korean group’s 20th anniversary. G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung performed as a trio. [1]
The concert brought the group back to a city where it made its European debut in December 2012. BBC News reports that a second Wembley Arena show was added after the first sold out in under two hours. [1]
The line-up has changed since then. Former member T.O.P received a suspended prison sentence after a marijuana-use conviction in 2017 and later left the group. Seungri retired from entertainment in 2019 amid the Burning Sun scandal. In 2022, South Korea’s Supreme Court upheld his 18-month prison sentence on charges including prostitution mediation, overseas gambling and embezzlement. [1]
Dr Haekyung Um, a senior lecturer in music at the University of Liverpool, credits Big Bang with helping K-pop reach a global audience. She calls them the “Kings of K-pop”. [1]
