Amsterdam’s AEX index fell 0.5% to 1,109 points shortly after trading began on 1 October, the first session of the final quarter of 2026. The MidKap also lost 0.5%, reaching 1,076 points. The early dip followed a rise of more than 15% for the AEX over the first nine months of the year. Frankfurt, Paris and London were also lower, with losses of up to 1.2%. [1]
ANP linked the cautious mood partly to a slight rise in oil prices. Chip shares provided a counterweight: Besi, ASML and ASMI led the AEX with gains of up to 2.4% after US chipmaker Micron Technology issued an upbeat outlook following Wednesday’s Wall Street close. Micron reported historically high profit margins for the past quarter, though it said it expected them to ease somewhat. [1]
KPN shares fell 1.3%. The telecoms company also announced that Wouter Stammeijer would become its chief financial officer on 1 November, succeeding Chris Figee. [1]
French government bonds sold off, and the yield on ten-year debt reached its highest level since 2002, ANP reported. [2]
ANP said investors were concerned that higher energy prices linked to the Iran war could push up inflation and borrowing costs. Oil prices and interest rates had risen further. [2]
