Jeremy and Gemma Cooper and two other sailors were rescued after their yacht sank following a reported collision with a sperm whale.

Jeremy and Gemma Cooper told the BBC that their yacht, the Tai Tam, lurched to port about 500 nautical miles off New Zealand. They knew it had been struck by something and then saw six sperm whales swimming behind it. The BBC reported that a sperm whale had collided with the yacht. [1]
The boat took on water and sank. The Coopers and two other sailors escaped into a life raft and were rescued by a container ship 17 hours later. [1]
