At 16 years and 363 days, Philadelphia Union midfielder Cavan Sullivan became the fourth-youngest player to represent the United States when he started Saturday’s 4-1 friendly win over Peru. His international debut followed his first run of regular Union starts after the 2026 World Cup. [1]
Sullivan has seven goals and five assists in MLS this season, including six goals and four assists in August and September. He has scored six times in his past six games. Union are unbeaten in 11 matches, winning nine, after winning only one of their opening 15. [1]
Manchester City moved to secure Sullivan’s future signing in 2024, when he was 14. He cannot officially join the Premier League club for a little over a year. [1]
Jonathan Tannenwald, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s chief soccer correspondent, told the BBC it was too early to know whether Sullivan would become the star some expect, noting that other promising youngsters had fallen short. [1]
