Riders set off from Brossard, across the St Lawrence River from Montreal, at 15:00 Dutch time on 26 September. ANP describes the 180km course as the longest women’s world championship road race yet and rates the Netherlands’ Demi Vollering as the leading favourite. [1]
The first 64km are mostly flat. The riders then face eight laps of a Montreal city circuit with several tough climbs. The Dutch squad also includes Riejanne Markus, Lieke Nooijen, Puck Pieterse, Karlijn Swinkels, Femke de Vries and Amber Kraak. [1]
Belgium’s two-time world champion Lotte Kopecky is another contender, while Canada’s Magdeleine Vallières is defending the title she won last year. The finish is expected at about 20:10 Dutch time. [1]
