The Toulouse back-rower has retained French rugby’s top individual league award, but says he still hopes to play internationally despite England’s selection rules.

Willis beat fellow finalists Matthieu Jalibert and Harry Plummer to the Top 14 best-player award for 2025–26. He is only the second player, after Antoine Dupont, to retain it. [1]
The Toulouse back-rower was player of the match in June’s Top 14 final victory over Montpellier, which brought him a fourth French title. He also won the Champions Cup with Toulouse in 2024. [1]
Willis has 14 England caps but has not played for his country since facing Chile at the 2023 World Cup. After joining Toulouse when Wasps went out of business in 2022, he was initially allowed to remain available for England. His decision to stay in France has since left him ineligible under England’s policy of selecting domestic-based players. [1]
Willis said he understood the consequence of staying at Toulouse: “You know what you sacrifice.” But his ambition remains: “It’s something I still want to do, but rules are rules.” [1]
