Germany has instructed state-owned energy company SEFE to add 8 terawatt-hours of gas to its stocks by 15 December, citing continuing geopolitical risks. Economy Minister Katherina Reiche and Chancellor Friedrich Merz made the decision, Nieuws.nl reported in an article credited to ANP, DPA and Reuters. [1]
German gas storage facilities were about 58% full at the time of the report. Reiche described the order as an important step towards securing gas supplies for winter. [1]
The government also intends the order to encourage other companies to build up their stocks. The Economy Ministry recently said it had no concerns about gas supplies for winter. [1]
