Flooding along the Gandak has reached settlements after heavy rain in Nepal. Reports cited by NASA say thousands of people have been displaced.

Torrential rain in Nepal’s Lumbini and Gandaki provinces from 24 to 27 September sent the Gandak River, also known as the Narayani, over or through embankments. Farmland and settlements along hundreds of kilometres of the river were inundated, NASA said. [1]
At Devghāṭ in Nepal, a river gauge reached 11.94 metres on 27 September — its highest reading since measurements began in the 1960s, according to Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology data cited by NASA. News reports cited by NASA said gauges at Bagaha, Dumariaghat, Rewaghat and Lalganj in India also set new high-water marks. [1]
NASA compared false-colour satellite images from 20 and 29 September, showing a much wider river in the later view. Some water covered seasonal fields within the river channel, where flooding is expected. It also reached settled areas, including parts of Bagaha, Areraj and Fulia Khand. [1]
News reports cited by NASA said flooding and landslides had affected hundreds of villages and displaced thousands of people. Authorities were still assessing the full extent of the damage when NASA published its account on 2 October. [1]
