Police arrested 17 people in dawn raids at 24 properties across London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk on Tuesday. More than 800 officers took part in the operation, the BBC reported. The raids were part of a Metropolitan Police investigation with HM Revenue and Customs and the Financial Conduct Authority. [1]
The 15 men and two women were held on suspicion of offences including participation in the activities of an organised-crime group, money laundering, cheating the public revenue, false accounting and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. [1]
An officer was stabbed in the leg while carrying out a warrant in Cockfosters, north London. His injuries were described as not life-changing. A 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with the stabbing. It is unclear whether he is included in the reported total of 17 arrests. [1]
The Metropolitan Police said searches were continuing at some properties and expected officers to remain for several days. [1]
