Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned on Tuesday that no infrastructure in the region would be safe if Iran’s security was not ensured. He also said that if Iran could not sell oil, no one else in the region would sell it. [2]
Ghalibaf published the remarks on his official channel and presented the warning as a position Iran had stated before. He named no targets or timetable for an attack. ANP/AFP reported that the remarks appeared in a video broadcast by Iranian state television. [1] [2]
The warning comes as Qatar mediates over reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said Qatari mediators would present Washington with ideas discussed with Tehran on meeting Iran’s conditions. He hoped for a US response on Tuesday, Anadolu reported, citing Iranian news agency IRNA. [4]
