U2 marked their 50th anniversary with a performance for pupils and teachers at their former school, Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, on Friday 25 September 2026. [1]
Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. opened with I Will Follow and also played Vertigo, Beautiful Day and Out of Control, Nieuws.nl reported. The outlet cited Irish broadcaster RTÉ as saying the band closed with With or Without You. [1]
In an on-camera interview with RTÉ covered by Nieuws.nl, Mullen praised the performance and said the pupils were not the band's usual audience because they were too young. [1]
The school holds a particular place in U2's history: it was where Mullen posted a notice seeking bandmates in 1976. The first gathering took place at his home, rather than at the school. [3]
In a 2021 interview with specialist music site U2Songs, early participant Ivan McCormick recalled rehearsing in Mullen's cramped kitchen. The site dates that first gathering to 25 September 1976 and reproduces McCormick's diary entry for the day, recording that he had joined a group and attended a rehearsal. [3]
The anniversary performance came a day after Island Records announced Carnaval De Luz, U2's 16th studio album. It is scheduled for release on 13 November 2026. [2]
