Allianz Trade estimates that extreme heat cost the Dutch economy €9.2bn in lost productivity during summer 2026.

Dutch news agency ANP reports the €9.2bn figure from credit insurer Allianz Trade. Johan Geeroms, the company’s Benelux risk director, said the estimate mainly concerns less visible losses in productivity, rather than direct damage to crops or infrastructure. [2]
Across Europe, Allianz Research estimates that heatwaves cost €113bn in lost output in 2026. For its climate economics work, it says it uses a platform combining climate indicators, natural-catastrophe analysis and macroeconomic modelling. [1]
Allianz Trade puts Italy’s loss at €27.8bn, followed by Germany at €25bn, France at €20.1bn and Belgium at €9.4bn. Together with the Netherlands, those countries account for 81% of its calculated European losses. [2]
