Metropolitan Police Sergeant Sadiq Al-Hasani, 37, has been charged with perverting the course of justice in an investigation into officers’ conduct at Charing Cross police station in London. The Met says he was charged on 13 August and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 30 September. He remains suspended from duty. [1] [2]
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) alleges that Al-Hasani approached a junior officer on 2 October 2025 with the intention of interfering with the wider investigation. The junior officer was a potential key witness, the watchdog says. The Met describes the allegation as an attempt to discourage another officer from making a statement to the IOPC. [1] [2]
The Met links the wider inquiry to a BBC Panorama programme broadcast in October 2025. BBC News described Al-Hasani as the first person charged as a result of its investigation into alleged misconduct at Charing Cross. [2] [3]
The criminal charge is separate from disciplinary findings in the wider inquiry. In a 15 September update, the IOPC said 15 officers had been found to have committed gross misconduct, while investigations into a further 15 officers or police staff continued. It also said it had decided not to refer a separate case involving an unnamed officer to prosecutors. [4]
