ANP reported on 1 October that Van Rooijen, already a senator, will again head 50PLUS’s candidate list for the Dutch Senate. The party currently holds one Senate seat. It expects substantial gains, pointing to favourable polling for the House of Representatives. [1]
Senators are elected indirectly after provincial elections, when newly elected provincial representatives choose the members of the upper house. Voters cannot cast a direct ballot for a Senate lead candidate. [1]
Wilma Schrover, director of Senioren Brabant-Zeeland, is second on the list. Martine Baay, now an alderwoman in Blaricum after serving six years in the Senate for 50PLUS, is third. [1]
