President Donald Trump has ordered the creation of America.gov as a common online entry point for federal information and services. The website was live on 29 September, the Associated Press reported; the order calls for agencies to connect eligible services to it. [1] [2]
The head of the General Services Administration is responsible for operating the portal, working with the National Design Studio and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Agencies must identify eligible services and securely make existing public forms, dashboards and digital interfaces accessible through America.gov. [1]
AP reported that the site described itself as free, advert-free and usable without logging in. The order separately calls for Login.gov to provide authentication for the portal. [1] [2]
Eligible services generally must be available to access or apply for online and serve more than 100,000 users over 12 months. The order excludes IRS tax filing, services provided by the Department of War, as named in the order, and intelligence-community services. OMB can change which services are covered. Its director has 90 days to issue implementation guidance, but the order sets no overall deadline for connecting services. [1]
Existing in-person, telephone, postal and agency-specific digital routes must remain available, and agencies are to retain control of their records. AP reported that, shortly after launch, the site changed its answers to questions about the 2020 election and inaugural crowd sizes, later declining to answer them as political inquiries. [1] [2]
President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to integrate services with America.gov, the White House said. The portal is live, but passport renewal and Medicare enrolment through the site are planned for later this year, rather than available at launch.

The White House says the order covers public-facing federal services that can be accessed or applied for online and serve more than 100,000 users in a 12-month period. It excludes IRS tax-filing services and national-security-sensitive services provided by what the administration calls the Department of War and by the intelligence community. The Office of Management and Budget is to issue guidance to agencies on implementation. [3]
The portal is also intended to work with Login.gov, the government’s sign-in system. A separate OMB memorandum issued in August already required agencies to offer Login.gov for certain public-facing websites, with one- and two-year deployment deadlines depending on the service. Those deadlines concern sign-in, not the arrival of transactions on America.gov. [3] [4]
The White House says people can ask America.gov any question and receive an up-to-date answer. The Associated Press reported that, shortly after launch, the site initially answered questions about the 2020 election result and inauguration crowd sizes, then declined to answer the same questions, saying it did not handle political inquiries.
