Lille and three nearby towns have introduced overnight curfews after demonstrations against government policy turned violent, according to a report citing French media.
A curfew has been imposed in Lille and three nearby northern French towns after weekend demonstrations against government policy turned violent, according to a report by Dutch news outlet Nieuws.nl, citing French media BFMTV and Le Parisien. [1]
The restriction runs from 8pm to 6am on Monday night and again on Tuesday night, the report says. It applies in Lille, Douai, Wattignies and Denain.
French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu had called for curfews to be introduced in several places following the unrest. The report says demonstrations took place across France, with violence, damage and looting in some areas. It also notes that the violence was not confined to the north and that several politicians had called for a state of emergency.
