Spanish police began clearing a migrant camp on Trampolín beach in Ceuta on Sunday. A national police spokesperson said the first phase of the evacuation was under way. Police were moving people to temporary accommodation, where officials would assess their status and consider whether they could return to Morocco, a Spanish Interior Ministry spokesperson said. [1]
The beach camp held an estimated 3,000 people, Nieuws.nl reported in a dispatch credited to ANP, Reuters and AFP. The report said more than 72,000 people crossed from Morocco into Ceuta in late July. Most later returned, it said, but at least 10,000 remained in the Spanish enclave. [1]
