Manchester City suffered their first league defeat of the season, losing 2-1 away to Aston Villa as Nicolas Jackson scored twice at Villa Park. City remain top of the Premier League on 21 points, but second-placed Arsenal can draw level when they host Everton later on Saturday.
Jackson put Villa ahead early. Erling Haaland equalised shortly after half-time, scoring his ninth league goal of the season, before Jackson struck again in the 60th minute from a pass by substitute Ibrahim Mbaye.
The win lifted Villa provisionally from 12th to sixth. Both sides had won at home in the Champions League in midweek: City beat AEK Athens 5-1, while Villa defeated Norway’s Viking FK 3-1.
