A Dutch food-sector institute expects eating out to cost more in 2027, while saying that higher prices, rather than more visits, are driving restaurant and café turnover growth this year.

Prices at restaurants, sandwich shops and cafés in the Netherlands are expected to rise by 4.5% in 2027, according to a forecast from food-sector research institute FSIN reported by Dutch news agency ANP. [1]
FSIN also expects Dutch hospitality turnover to grow by 2.6% in 2026. But it says the increase at restaurants and cafés comes entirely from higher prices, while the number of hospitality visits is falling. FSIN director Patrick Bramer says rising prices have made consumers more critical about their spending. [1]
The institute’s wider 2027 forecast, which includes supermarkets and specialist food shops, puts price growth at 3.5% and turnover growth at 3.6%. Those figures cover a broader group of businesses than the 4.5% forecast for places to eat and drink. [1]
