BASF has made a takeover proposal to fellow German chemicals company Evonik Industries and approached Evonik’s largest shareholder about a bid, the Financial Times reported, according to ANP. [1]
The FT also reported that BASF, based in Ludwigshafen, has been discussing a possible acquisition of Essen-based Evonik with banks since earlier this year. Evonik’s largest shareholder, RAG-Stiftung, holds a 44% stake. [1]
ANP put Evonik’s stock-market value at about €8.4bn and BASF’s at roughly €47bn. The companies’ combined revenues in 2025 were €74bn. [1]
The terms of any bid, including its price, and whether Evonik or RAG-Stiftung would support a takeover remain unclear.
