Sony has raised its operating profit forecast for the financial year ending in March to 1.9 trillion yen (£10.9bn), citing strong sales of games, music and films. The company’s latest quarterly profit and revenue also exceeded analysts’ expectations, according to a report by Nieuws.nl citing Sony’s announcement.
Sony made an operating profit of 622.3 billion yen in the quarter, while revenue reached 3.43 trillion yen. The report said the games and film businesses were the main drivers of growth.
Among the successful releases were the film *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* and the PlayStation 5 game *Marvel’s Wolverine*. Interest in Sony’s Michael Jackson music catalogue also rose, with streaming boosted by a film about the singer. Sony co-owns the catalogue.
