Jan G., a 28-year-old Dutch man suspected of involvement in a cocaine-importation attempt, has been remanded in custody for a further 14 days after being extradited from Germany, Dutch news agency ANP reported [1].
G. was brought before an investigating judge at the court in ’s-Hertogenbosch, who extended his pre-trial detention. He was arrested on 18 September in a car park beside the A44 near Soest, Germany.
He is suspected of involvement in an attempt to import almost 4,000 kilograms of cocaine. The shipment was found in containers at the French port of Dunkirk on 7 September, according to ANP [1].
G. was also the target of violence in the Gelderland village of Overasselt. During the night of 31 August to 1 September, a large group of armed men entered the village, shooting dead a security guard outside G.’s home and injuring two police officers. A threat video later showed that G. had been the intended target, the report said. More than 30 men from several countries have been arrested in connection with the violence [1].
