A priest was killed and four other people were injured in a knife attack at a Catholic abbey in Jarosław, south-eastern Poland, on Thursday morning, officials said, according to BBC News. A 31-year-old Ukrainian man was arrested after the stabbings. [1]
Police said the five people stabbed on the abbey grounds were four men and one woman. That total includes the priest who died. [1]
Police were investigating the attacker’s motive, which had not been established at the time of the BBC’s report on 24 September. The priest’s name had not been publicly released. The report did not specify the injured people’s medical conditions or establish whether the arrested man had been charged. [1]
Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said psychological support was being provided to everyone affected by the attack. [1]
The Ukrainian embassy in Poland condemned the attack and urged people not to let grief turn into hatred or further violence. It said responsibility for a crime must be determined solely under the law. [1]
