Portugal began their Nations League title defence with a 1–0 win over Wales at Lisbon’s Estádio José Alvalade, thanks to João Félix’s first-half goal. [1]
Félix struck in the 22nd minute, shooting from about 18 metres through Wales defender Ben Davies’s legs and into the left corner. It proved to be the only goal of the match. [1]
Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal’s 41-year-old captain, missed an open-goal chance and had a goal disallowed for offside. New Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus substituted him midway through the second half. [1]
